Hindalco, the metal flagship of India's Aditya Birla Group, said the company's US-based unit, Novelis, will increase its aluminium production capacity by 20% by 2014.
Novelis will invest about $300m in one of its Brazilian factories to meet the growing demand for its products in South America, according to the Financial Express.
The capacity will be increased through brownfield expansions of plants, the company said.
The project is expected to be completed by 2012.
Hindalco's net profit rose 26% to INR4330m ($96m) for the quarter ended 30 September.
The company said it is also planning to restart copper mine operations in Mount Gordon, Australia, by the end of the year.
