Canada Rejects Taseko's Mine Proposal
Canada has rejected Taseko Mines' proposal for a gold and copper project in British Columbia.
Canada refused to grant approval due to concerns about the adverse impact the project, called Prosperity, would have on fish habitats and on local Indian groups, reports Bloomberg.
Taseko sought approval to develop the project 125km south-west of Williams Lake and will now initiate talks with the federal and provincial governments to seek options to move the project forward and meet appropriate criteria.
The minister of the Environment of Canada Jim Prentice said the company can propose a revised project.
