In 2002, a copper mine in Murdochville, Quebec, was closed after 40 years of service. Then, the mining company began the process of rehabilitation of the areas surrounding the mine. A key concern was controlling erosion and minimizing contact water runoff during rainfall and snowmelt conditions to reduce the volume of water requiring treatment.
