Produced Water from Production of Crude Oil, Natural Gas and Coal Bed Methane
03 March 2010Produced water is the largest byproduct or waste stream associated with oil and gas production. The US Department of Energy is interested in generating produced water and may develop future research programmes or policy initiatives dealing with various aspects of produced water.
The department will also learn how it is managed and regulated in different settings, and the cost of produced water management. Various treatment technologies that can be employed before the produced water is injected or discharged are also found in the research along with federal and state regulatory requirements.
Chemical and physical characteristics of produced water and its potential impacts on the environment and on mining operations are also discussed by the Argonne National Laboratory in collaboration with John A Veil, Markus G Puder, Deborah Elcock and Robert J Redweik, Jr.
