| Abstract: |
A field visit of the Wild Lake and Lake Creek, Alaska area for placer mining operations by Brooks Range Exploration II, (BREXCO II). The purpose of the field visit to the Wild-Lake was toobtain a general overview of the Lake Creek placer mining operation by BREXCO and to look for similarities to the Nolan Creek-Hammond River area, which is located 35 miles west of Wild Lake. Mining History Gold was first discovered on Sprig Creek in 1903 (REED, 1938) and was first worked in the summer of 1904. During the same year gold was discovered on Surprise Creek and Lake Creek. Sprig creek, Surprise Creek and Lake Creek have been mined extensively, but of the three, Lake Creek has the longest mining hiostory, operating intermittently from about 1904 to present (KURTAK ET AL., 1999 and 2002). |
