The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview and compare the benefits, features and functionality of digital mobile radio systems in the 400MHz band as a reflection of recent changes to ACMA licensing regulations. Two such systems of importance in today's market place include the Project 25 and TETRA standards.
The Australian government regulatory body for radio communications, ACMA, have undertaken a review of their 400MHz band in 2010 to reduce the congestion that currently exists in the band.
The objective is to enable the use of modern, spectrally efficient technology whilst prohibiting use of inefficient systems where appropriate.
