Everyday at The Children's Hospital at Westmead we meet and care for kids who, despite their disabilities, do extraordinary things.
Richard Clark, chief executive officer of Pacific Hoists, has, for the last two years participated in the City to Surf, Think Kid's Challenge. In this time, Richard has raised more than $20,000 for The Children's Hospital at Westmead, an extraordinary amount of money. Richard, along with Pacific Hoists, are the most significant supporters of this event. The Sun Herald City to Surf is an annual event comprising a 14km run starting in the heart of Sydney City and finishing at Bondi Beach. The race is the world's largest fun run event and this year it will take place on Sunday the 10th of August 2008.
The Think Kids Challenge is a fundraising activity where supporters of The Children's Hospital at Westmead can join together to run the City2Surf under the Hospital's name. To be part of the team, each member raises a minimum of $100 in sponsorship.
The Think Kids Challenge began in 2005, the year after Jay, an eight-year-old boy with a life limiting neurodegenerative disorder completed the 2004 City to Surf. He completed the race in a wheel chair alongside his dad and volunteers, a feat previously considered unimaginable. Jay and his dad led the way by demonstrating that if they could, then so too could ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things.
This year Richard aims to raise $20,000 for the event and with your donation, he will be well on his way to acheiving his goal.
A donation of this calibre would enable the hospital to support research facilities and provide the best possible care for patients and their families as well as funding initiatives such as Bear Cottage. Bear Cottage is the only children's hospice in NSW and is located on Sydney's Northern Beaches. It is designed to ensure families and children can rest in tranquil surroundings, with specialist medical care available 24 hours a day.
The Children's Hospital at Westmead is the highly respected, largest paediatric centre in NSW, providing excellent care for children from NSW, Australia and across the Pacific Rim. Established in 1880, a stand alone public hospital and registered charity. The Children's Hospital at Westmead serves 50,000 sick children and their families each year in a family-focused healing environment.
