Advanced Braking Technology - Sealed Intergrated Braking System

Sealed Integrated Braking System (SIBS) is the latest in fail-safe braking technology for your fleet of light commercial mining vehicles. Engineered to survive the harshest conditions, SIBS fail safe brakes deliver unparalleled safety, improved productivity and lower operating costs.

SEALED INTEGRATED BRAKING SYSTEM

The SIBS brake was developed for the Land Cruiser and has been designed to exceed current manufacturer’s specifications in every area. Combined with the inherent advantages of the SIBS design, the result is a system that is unsurpassed by any product operating in harsh environments on the market.

Unlike other enclosed braking systems that use multiple rotors to minimise pressure requirements, the robust design of the SIBS brake is suitable for both high speed and high load conditions. The fail-safe system is dependable and capable of consistently providing emergency braking without detriment to internal components.

ENCLOSED DISC BRAKES

Enclosed disc brakes improve braking efficiency. In dry brake systems local heating of the brake pads leads to the heating of the hydraulic fluid during hard braking applications. Heating causes the fluid to evaporate, forming pockets of gas inside the reservoir.

Subsequent braking compresses this gas giving decreased braking performance and a classic spongy pedal feel. In the Sealed Intergrated Braking System (SIBS) brake this effect is prevented as the cooling fluid allows the heat to flow away from the brake pads and into a reservoir heat sink.

The housing enclosure prevents the ingress of foreign material onto the pad and rotor. In conventional braking, these contaminants have two major detrimental effects. Firstly, particles become trapped between rotor and pad during braking, vastly increasing the wear rate of the pads and often damaging the rotor. In addition, water and mud collect on the rotor, reducing friction and causing a significant lag between application and the start of effective braking.

SPRING APPLIED HYDRAULIC RELEASE BRAKE

The SIBS spring applied hydraulic release brake incorporates a separate hydraulic system that operates the parking and emergency brake. This has a much more dependable and consistent operation compared to other park brake systems. The fail-safe design used applies the brake during sudden loss of power, door opening or hydraulic failure. This not only provides assurance against unforeseen failure events but prevents operators from leaving the park brake off, regardless of the situation.

MINE VEHICLE BRAKES

The SIBS technology has been employed in applications among the harshest in the world mine vehicle brakes. In underground mining the enclosed brakes prevent spark production that would ordinarily be a danger. Other applications have seen vehicles traversing mountainous terrain consisting of dramatic gradients where a strong and dependable parking brake is a necessity.

BRAKE SYSTEM

In harsh conditions, brake servicing and maintenance can make a significant proportion of operating costs. This is due not only to the parts and servicing requirements but also the downtime associated with equipment being frequently out of service. The SIBS brake requires only low levels of periodic maintenance, to check and replace the cooling fluid. The negligible wear and zero internal corrosion associated with the oil-immersed system means that spare parts requirements are also minimised.

SIBS BRAKING SYSTEM INSTALLATION

The SIBS braking system is a sophisticated, fully-developed retrofit kit. It has been designed to directly replace the manufacturer’s brake with only minor modification to the vehicle. The service brake utilizes the existing hydraulic circuit which is supplemented for safety with an additional circuit and pump to activate the parking and emergency brake. Installation is assisted by our simple manual and professional support personnel.

In keeping with the high quality and benefits of the SIBS product, Safe Effect continues to develop the technology to improve performance.
