ColdMist evaporative solutions provide durable industrial evaporation equipment designed for different environments and operating conditions. The company offers two technologies for evaporation – water fracturing and water atomization.

Mine water management

Our water fracturing products come either land-based, mounted on a boom, which can be raised and lowered (it can also be aimed at different angles as well as vertical operation), or on a floating mount.

This equipment is used primarily where a small to medium area of land or containment pond is available to catch overspray and droplet drift. Evaporation occurs at a very high rate through the extended hang time of the water droplets. Average annual evaporation rates up to 70% have been achieved but typically fall between 40% - 60%.

Water fracturing systems

ColdMist water fracturing systems can pass particles up to 5mm in diameter which eliminates the need for pre-filtering, filter cleaning and the hassle of clogged nozzles. The floating evaporator comes complete with a submersible pump suspended under the unit and is operated from a control panel on shore.

The key advantages to a tailings dam floating evaporator are:

• The system is less vulnerable to changing wind conditions
• The system requires less operator attention

Advantages of the water fracturing systems are:

• They can be operated in vertical or horizontal position (to minimise water droplet spray drift during winds), on small ponds or large lakes
• They are also best used for dirty water (large undissolved particulates) and in treating acidic water

Tailings dams and water atomization systems

Air is compressed via a fan through a tapered barrel with water being atomized through 30 nozzles. The result is controlled size water droplets which are created via the nozzles. An optional water filter is available for pre-filtering. These systems, which have a throw of 60m, come complete with oscillation and are trailer mounted for mobility, allowing them to be road-towed if required. This family of products is best used for the following conditions:

• Larger area for evaporation and wet or dry drift
• Lower dissolved solids content and smaller to no particles
• Another key advantage of this unit is its ability to fight winds since it uses a high powered fan to blow the water droplets into the air

Automation for evaporator systems

ColdMist's basic on / off weather automation package typically includes a master control panel and weather station (typically includes wind speed, wind direction, humidity and temperature sensors) with mounting brackets.

Our premium weather automation package includes software which gives the user the ability to control the function of the system and monitor, store and graph system data via a desktop computer, as well as manually at the master control panel. Custom features that can be added include a control system which monitors salinity levels, rainfall and controls water flow and water pressure to evaporators to increase evaporation during favourable conditions.

At a time when contractors and bulk material handlers are finding capex budgets squeezed to the limit, many companies are turning to rental options for dust suppression and mine water management systems.
