Baldwin Industrial Systems - Chemical Wastewater Treatment Systems

Baldwin Industrial Systems (BIS) specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and service of individual chemical wastewater treatment systems. BIS has been developing technologically sophisticated solutions for the treatment and disposal of wastewater since 1988.

Wastewater treatment systems

BIS has designed and supplied customers with over 2,000 wastewater treatment systems. Installations cover a wide range of applications, including large refinery upgrades, small packaged separators, heavy vehicle washbays at mine sites, and coolant recycle and disposal in steel mills.

Coalescing plate separators

BIS offers enhanced coalescing plate separators (CPS), which efficiently remove "free" oils and greases, as well as suspended solids, from wastewater stream. They can be installed in either in-ground pits or above-ground tanks with discharge qualities suitable for disposal to sewer or storm water.

Enhanced gravity separators

BIS’ enhanced gravity separators are available in various sizes and configurations, and are approved by most Australian authorities. The gravity separator has a tough and compact design, modular plate packs, and first flush, storm by-pass configurations. BIS offers complete packages for its enhanced gravity separator systems, which include pumps, level controls and low-voltage panels. Its benefits include the following:

  • No moving parts – minimum maintenance
  • Gravity or pumped flow – basic unit or auto system
  • Sludge dewatering options
  • Chemical-resistant polyethylene and polypropylene components
  • Performance guarantees available
  • Effluent qualities to less than 10ppm

Dissolved air flotation systems

Dissolved air flotation (DAF) is a liquid/solid separation process in which microscopic air bubbles (10μ -100μ) become attached to solid particles suspended in liquid, causing the solid particles to float. In a DAF system, air is dissolved into liquid under pressure. The dissolved air remains in solution until the pressure is released to atmospheric pressure, causing the air to come out of solution in the form of microscopic air bubbles.

The bubbles are mixed intimately with the wastewater and become attached to the solids in the waste stream causing the air solids agglomerate to float to the liquid surface where a solids (float) blanket is formed. Surface skimmers then remove the float blanket.

Chemical wastewater treatment

BIS’ RM-10® specialty chemical treatment is a unique, one-step process for difficult to treat wastewater. Its unique range of clay-based powder chemicals removes emulsified oil, heavy metals, phosphates and suspended solids from wastewater with a one tank in one chemical process.

The RM-10 chemicals are composed of minerals, inorganic and organic acids, bases and polymers, blended into complex and carefully controlled formulations. BIS offers manual, semi and fully automatic systems in stainless-steel fabrication with PLC control.

Safe and simple chemical wastewater treatment system

With the RM-10 chemical wastewater treatment system, chemical handling and storage facilities are minimised as only one non-toxic chemical is required as opposed to three or more when using conventional wastewater treatment. In most cases, the micro-encapsulation process creates a sludge that is non-leachable and can be disposed of directly to non-hazardous landfill. As a result, sludge volumes are minimised as the clay base retains no chemically held water.

Efficient and economical industrial wastewater treatment

The various designs and configurations of BIS’ RM-10 chemical wastewater treatment system enable efficient and economical treatment of most industrial wastewater applications.

In addition, the small moulded "Busta" units, designed to treat 300l – 500l each day, are manual and economical, semi-automatic units that require minimal operator time and are available in painted mild steel construction and are ideal for treating 750l - 1,000l per hour.

Oil skimmers

BIS’ range of oil skimmers includes floating, continuous belt, disk and tube skimmers, with various sizes and materials. Oil skimmers can be used in drainage pits in primary metal mills and factories, metalworking parts washers, coolant tanks and heat treating fluids, truck, locomotive and other mobile equipment wash bay sumps and underground tanks and monitoring wells. They have the following benefits:

  • Extend coolant life by removing tramp oils
  • Prevent plugging of spray heads and filters
  • Skimmed oil can be recycled and reused as a lubricant or fuel
  • Lift oil any distance without the need for expensive pumps
  • Easy mounting and fast cleaning, with minimal maintenance
  • Multiple mounting options for easy installation
  • Floor mounting stands available

Fine filtration systems

BIS provides various types of media and cartridge filters for "polishing" effluents to provide very clean discharge qualities. These are suitable for recycling operations or irrigation.

BIS is recognised for accurate, practical designs, as well as quality equipment and installations. Each BIS project, regardless of size, receives the full commitment of the company's experienced team of engineers.
