Crisp-Air is an ISO-9001-accredited manufacturer specialising in purpose-built and application-specific transport air conditioning and refrigeration systems, as well as cabin/space air filtration, cabin/space pressurisation and purification systems, methods and services. Crisp-Air tests, monitors and improves air quality within workplaces by eliminating fine particulate matter, eliminating odours and reducing chemical contaminants (TVOC). Crisp-Air's leading-edge technology in air filtration, pressurisation and air purification led to the formation of the group’s air quality division, Crisp Airgineering™.

Air-purification systems

Crisp-Air tests air pollution in a range of workplace environments, including mobile workplaces such as vehicle cabins. The Crisp Airgineering range of air filtration/purification/pressurisation products is unique and enables the client to better manage the quality of air in the workplace.

Air-purification technology

Crisp Airgineering uses a number of technologies depending on the application and will purpose-design and build to suit the application. This ranges from simple pressurisation (pumping in more air than can escape giving the space positive air pressure), filtering the air to 99% down to 1µ (and offering a self-purging feature as an option) to polishing the in-cabin air (removing ingress air dust from door opening and dust on clothing and footwear) using cold plasma technology. Our air-purification technologies provide the following benefits:

Air-conditioning systems

Crisp-Air’s air-conditioning systems are designed to perform in extreme environments and in/on a variety of vehicles such as:

  • People movers - mini-bus rear air-conditioning in off-engine or fully electric systems, which allow for pre-cooling before passengers board the vehicle without running the engine
  • Application-specific designed air-conditioning systems for skid steers, bulldozers and excavators
  • Custom-designed and built marine air-conditioning systems - off-engine (underway), stationery (on mooring) and inverter (at anchor)
  • Non-engine drive systems - full electric systems with standby power for applications where air conditioning is needed with the vehicle’s engine turned off

Air-filtration services

Air filtration is required to capture dust and other particulates from the cabin/space air. Respiratory dust, or those particles less than 10µ, are the size that pass deep into the body, bypassing the normal human capture and expulsion mechanism. Accomplishing this level of air filtration creates its own challenges, to which Crisp-Airgineering provides the solution.

The maintenance of air filters themselves can be difficult as the captured dust and particles can be classed as hazardous waste (such as silica), which requires another level of OH&S and Duty of Care and Best Business Practice.

Dust-removal services

When dust enters the cabin/space/workplace enclosure through a number of door opening/closing and on boots and clothing as people enter, air "sweeping" or "polishing" for dust removal may be required.

The sweeping of the air can be done using cold plasma technology, a non-ozone-forming negative ionization technology, which draws the airborne particulates across the surface and magnetises the fine particulates, forming clusters, gain mass and weight, therefore being captured in the reticulation cycle, or losing suspension and falling to the floor. Conventional style, dry arrestance-type filtration is also suitable. Filtering air to remove particulate matter is one thing; however the removal of some gaseous based such as total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) odours is another and requires air-purification systems.

Air-pollution analysis and testing

Unpleasant smells and odours within a cabin/space/workplace enclosure, although in some cases harmless, are less than desirable. Symptoms can be described as "flu-like" with watery eyes and a runny nose not being an unusual characteristic.

Each situation requires individual analysis to identify the best medium to remove the odour(s), which could be dry chemical media, such as activated carbon (natural or impregnated for specific duty) or alumina/permanganate, and/or cold plasma technology.

Dust prevention and removal in control and switchrooms

Another challenging area with industrial sites, such as mine and coal-fired power stations, is dust and corrosive gas entry into control rooms. Dust will cause resistance between contacts, heat build-up and eventual failure. It can often be conductive and is an insulator, therefore any build-up on electronic boards is to be avoided.

In some instances, such as coal-handling facilities and grain processing plants and silos, dust can be explosive and may lead to dangerous and hazardous situations. In order to ensure dust prevention and removal, Crisp-Air offers purpose-designed space pressurization accompanied with quality filtration and air purification.
