Firetec - Automatic Fire Suppression Equipment

Firetec® combined automatic fire detection and suppression equipment is manufactured in the UK, USA and New Zealand. It has provided automatic fire protection for vehicles, plant and machinery underground for over 10 years. These include USA and Scandinavian-owned mines, Europe’s deepest mine, and Europe’s biggest mine. It is also specified in tunnels e.g: the $365million Northern Gateway tunnel, Auckland New Zealand and the €600million Dublin tunnel, Ireland.

Firetec is also used as both OEM and retro fit to protect surface and construction machinery in American, European, African and Antipodean countries.

Firetec equipment incorporates company patents, internationally registered designs and the unique technologies of Reacton, as well as Exqip.

  • CT systems - automatic, single-directional discharge-using powder, foams and gas
  • CTX systems - automatic, single and multi-nozzle discharge with powder, foams or gasses
  • CB systems - automatic, site or multi-site specific protection with powder, foams or gasses

FIRETEC’S UNIQUE TECHNOLOGY

Firetec linear systems discharge customer specified extinguishant via CT or CTX valves and Reacton tubing. Reacton is a unique, very tough, completely impermeable plastic material developed by Firetec, with a carefully engineered automatic response to fire.

The unique method of fire protection afforded by Reacton, and patented components, is at the heart of all Firetec linear systems. Firetec CB systems employ Exqip combined automatic detection and discharge devices, to protect individual items or sites from fire.

Features of Firetec unique technology:

  • Pin-point detection
  • Accurate discharge towards fire
  • No extinguishant wasted
  • No large intrusive cylinders required
  • Can be used to individually protect a number of widely spaced items
  • No moving parts (CT and CB systems)
  • No requirement for electrical power, batteries or components, or needlessly complicated control equipment
  • No electrical components to fail
  • No risk of sparks
  • Simple installations, often carried out by the mine’s staff
  • Scaleable components; protects equipment large and small
  • Fire protection equipment combining automatic detection with automatic suppression
  • Incorporate uniquely engineered Reacton™ tubing combining precise response to fire with extreme resistance to abrasion

FIRETEC CT SYSTEMS

Firetec CT systems accurately detect fire anywhere Reacton tube is routed, and automatically discharge customer-specified extinguishant directly at the fire.

Features of CT systems:

  • Scalable
  • Used to protect underground trucks, plant and machinery, material handlers, 4 x 4s, pick-ups, generators and electrical installations
  • Can be used for retro and temporary fitting with items of plant or vehicles protected in a matter of minutes

FIRETEC CTX SYSTEMS

Firetec CTX systems are fully featured and combine the automatic detection and discharge properties of CT systems with a simultaneous discharge by fixed nozzles via Firetec’s patented CTX valves. Customers may specify extinguishants, pressures, number of nozzles, manual lock-down, manual activation and remote status display.

The initial knock-down discharge from the Reacton tube and the simultaneous release from nozzles can utilise different extinguishants at different pressures.

Features of CTX systems:

  • Multi-nozzle equipment without electricity, batteries or big cylinders
  • Used to protect large and valuable machines and anywhere a multi-nozzle discharge is required
  • Available in twin-agent format
  • Installed by mining maintenance crews after training, or by Firetec engineers

FIRETEC CB SYSTEMS

Firetec CB systems are used specifically where the actual location of the fire risk is known, or in areas where ambient temperature exceeds 85°C.

Features of CB systems:

  • Cost-effective and quickly fitted from stock providing useful and immediate protection to small items of machinery
  • A single CB system can protect a number of widely spaced items, e.g. the bearings on conveyor belts

Firetec systems are manufactured in the UK by Fire Monitoring Systems Ltd. and under license in the USA and New Zealand.
