Brokrew - Ventilation Pipes and Fittings

From our small beginnings in 1927 with the manufacture of ventilation pipes and fittings for the mining industry, Brokrew Industrial has expanded into being the largest manufacturer and supplier of ventilation ducting and equipment to both the mining and general industries in South Africa.

We now have five factories strategically located throughout the mining areas in South Africa and employ in the region of 350 staff to service our clients. We are a SABS listed company and as such all goods are manufactured to satisfy the requirements of SABS ISO 9001: 2000 quality management systems. The company comprises of basically four divisions, these are outlined below.

STEEL VENTILATION DUCTING

Standard products division: this division manufactures and supplies light gauge, mild and galvanized steel ventilation ducting, fittings and accessories in lock-formed and spiral sections as well as PVC / HDPE ducting, curtains, barricades and centre gulley brattices. In addition, we are the appointed agents in South Africa for the Ocenco Incorporated self-contained self-rescuers.

WELDED DUCTING AND FITTINGS

Projects division: this division with its well-equipped design and drawing departments services our customers in the medium-gauge steel (including stainless) welded ducting and fittings sector. This division has proved to be one of the areas where most expansion of our business has taken place and our qualified team is able to assist our customers with design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of product.

CENTRIFUGAL AND AXIAL FLOW FANS

Fan division: this is a fairly new division for us, we purchased a fan company in 2006 together with its well-qualified staff who are able to design, manufacture, install and commission centrifugal and axial-flow fans as well as water eliminators for both the mining and general industries. Our service in this division includes fan evaluation and balancing for our clients.

SURVIVAIR DIVISION - REFUGE CHAMBERS, E-UNITS AND OXYGEN CANDLES

Survivair refuge chambers, Survivair-E units and oxygen candles are supplied to the mining industry in both South Africa and the overseas market - Survivair equipment branded "Rescuair" in Australia and Canada complements our own market.

Designed to provide mines with a "safe haven" in the event of an underground disaster, each Survivair steel chamber (manufactured in our projects division) contains inter-alia oxygen candles (sourced on an exclusive basis from Naschem), a carbon dioxide / monoxide scrubber, fresh water and battery powered air-conditioned / de-humidifier unit. Depending on the size and configuration of the chamber between eight and 16 miners can be accommodated for up to 24 hours.

For larger sections of up to 35 miners the Survivair-E unit can be used in standard, pre-built refuge chambers to provide breathable air for up to 24 hours. A recent further development for the use of this technology is an enquiry for this product to be used to counter the threat of terrorism and chemical attacks by adapting it to become a "safe room" or "panic room" in certain areas.
