ATM Enterprises - ROPS and FOPS, Design, Test and Manufacture

ATM carries out the design, test, manufacture and installation of ROPS and FOPS on service and water tanker vehicles for use on mine sites. As the mining, industry has boomed in recent years, so has the need for these increasingly common vehicles to be present on mine sites.

Mine safety regulations require that earthmoving machinery, including service units and road watering tankers be fitted with Roll Over Protective Structures (ROPS) and Falling Object Protective Structures (FOPS) to AS2294 (Australia) ISO 3449 / 3471 (European) and SAE J231 / J1240 (United States).

ROPS OR FOPS SYSTEM TESTING

Standards cite that a ROPS or FOPS system should be tested to destruction and the owner or operator should have a copy of the test report to ensure they are compliant. It is also prudent for the site manager to retain a copy.

The objective of ROPS and FOPS is to keep the operator of the machinery protected from being crushed should a roll over occur or should the vehicle be struck by a falling object. ATM has built a reputation as a specialist designer, tester and installer of ROPS and FOPS to approved standards and its services are in high demand.

Most customers do not ask for the test result, either because they are unaware they need it or they merely want the ROPS tag fitted. However if an accident occurs and you fail to produce a destruction test report you may be held culpable. When that day comes, your public liability insurance will not cover you because you were not compliant with the approved standard.

BOILERMAKERS, FITTERS, BODYBUILDERS AND WELDERS

The skilled team at ATM includes boilermakers, fitters, bodybuilders and welders. Our workshops are well equipped with testing and machining capabilities so ATM really is a one-stop-shop, able to handle your every need from start to finish.

Owner Murray Paddison and his staff can oversee a job throughout its progression, allowing the company to control the quality of the work and ensure it meets ATM's high standards.

ROLL OVER PROTECTIVE STRUCTURE REPAIRS

If a ROPS has been involved in an incident that has resulted in 'discernable deformation' of the structure, the damaged structure shall not be reused. However, repairs may be carried out to damaged structures providing it reaches the satisfaction of the manufacturer or approved representative of the manufacturer and is certified by a person experienced in the design of ROPS. In addition, the repairer must attach a label with company details and a statement that the repairs have been carried out.

FALLING OBJECT PROTECTIVE STRUCTURE REPAIRS

FOPS need not be repaired if they show only minor damage resulting from a falling object. On more heavily damaged FOPS, repairs may be carried out to meet the manufacturer's standards or a certified person, experienced in the design of FOPS.

To meet these standards, it is imperative that you visit a reputable and experienced company such as ATM that can address your every need and evaluate it to the required standard.

EXPERTISE IN MINING EQUIPMENT
