DRA Mineral Projects - Mining, Infrastructure and Mineral Processing Projects

The DRA Group, a multi-disciplinary, multi-national enterprise, specialises in a total solutions offering covering virtually every aspect of mine design, infrastructure and mineral process plant design and construction. It has seven offices located in mining areas around the world and plants on five continents.

Mining project management, infrastructure and civil engineering

DRA Mining provides a total mining solution which includes: consulting services, exploration management, geology, studies, Competent Person reports, resource modeling, mine design, mine scheduling, surface and underground infrastructure, design and engineering, materials handling, construction management, operational support, maintenance and mine closure.

This service, which covers the entire spectrum of industrial, civil and structural design and construction, is managed by a specialist engineering and construction team.

Minerals processing plant design

DRA Mineral Projects has been successfully involved in some of the most challenging mine and processing developments in the world. The company has the expertise to conceptualise and design mineral processing plants from run-of-mine ore to saleable product in the platinum, coal, diamond, gold, ferrous and base metals, uranium and phosphate sectors, amongst others.

Project management for mineral processing plants

DRA’s project management capabilities ensure total control across all types of projects. By drawing on its collective expertise, the company is able to direct the entire project process from conceptual feasibility to final hand-over and beyond. DRA offers fast track implementation when required, testing and inspection, construction management and control as well as office and conference facilities for sites in remote areas.

Contract operations and winder engineering

Minopex, one of the companies within the DRA Group, is a specialist in the field of contract operations and maintenance of metal and mineral processing facilities in the coal, platinum and diamond industries.

Whether acting as consultant, project manager or principle contractor, DRA Technical Services (DRATS) is equally comfortable providing independent, specialist expertise in new winder projects, winder refurbishment and upgrades, training or software engineering. The division also offers a full shaft and shaft steelwork design capability.

Electrical, instrumentation and control of mineral plant projects

As a leading, independent and self-sufficient electrical, energy management, control and instrumentation engineering solutions provider to industry and mining, DRA can provide clients with high and medium voltage heavy current, low voltage and light current electrical designs; instrumentation design; and sophisticated software programming and data communications. Its specialist power engineering division can analyse, upgrade and optimise power systems on mining and large industrial sites in order to reduce energy bills, optimise processes and manage energy consumption.

Mineral plant safety

DRA is recognised as a leader in the field of safety and has taken this a step further with the introduction of people-based safety, a 'beyond zero' process that strives for a total safety culture by making the workplace people-driven rather than behaviour-driven.

The R814 million Phola Coal Project involved the construction of a 16 million tpm coal washing facility servicing coal from two mines.
The BKM Project was a R4 billion greenfields project with an original design capacity of 8.4 million tpa export product. An extension to the original project, upgrading the facility to a 10 million tpa export mine has also been completed.
The Pilanesberg Platinum Mines project with a design capacity of 365,000tpm features a design which treats two reefs separately: UG2 at 65,000tpm and the Merensky at 300,000tpm.
The upgrade of the 100,000tpm N'Komati Nickel plant to 250,000tpm is the final phase in a three-phase plant expansion which was awarded to DRA in June 2009.
