Strata CommTrac Wireless Communications System Now MSHA Approved

Saturday, November 06, 2010 by Strata Products™

Strata Safety Products is pleased to announce MSHA approval of its intrinsically safe wireless communications system, Strata CommTrac.

Strata CommTrac wireless communications and tracking With no external antennas, battery back-up systems or hard-wire backbone needed to carry data from the mine, Strata CommTrac is a truly wireless communications and tracking system. It is the first completely wireless underground system to be approved.

Simple yet rugged fixed communication nodes are stand-alone units installed underground to form a digital mesh network. These approved nodes are powered by four standard D-cell alkaline batteries which have a lifespan of approximately one year.

The newly MSHA-approved miner communicators are carried by miners and function as the system’s communicators and tracking devices. These devices interact with the fixed communication nodes, transmitting miner identification data for tracking and text messages for communication. All data is transmitted to the surface via a wireless gateway where it is monitored, tracked and logged.

Strata Commtrac is self-forming, self-healing and self-monitoring. System functions and battery levels are automatically monitored with system alerts sent to surface operators. Strata CommTrac is available now for mine-wide installation. As always, our staff is available to answer questions and provide any needed service and support.
