Strata Products - Underground Mining Roof Support Products

Strata Products develops cost-efficient roof support products for underground mines. We have a range of products that can be used on rib, roof and floor control as well as longwall shield recovery screens. These engineered products are used in coal mines in tailgates, headgates, bleeder entries and as supplementary support. In hardrock mines, our products are used as primary stope and face supports.

Since being established in 1990, Strata Products has grown its product line from one to over 18 different product lines.

ROCPROP™ MECHANICAL ROOF PROP

Rocprop, imported and distributed exclusively by Strata Products is a leader in underground mining roof support products. It is a compact roof prop that offers active support by using hydraulic pre-stressing.

Strata Products sells hundreds of Rocprops monthly to mines across the U.S. Features that make Rocprop the prop of choice are its unique pre-stressing abilities, quick and easy installation, significant reduction in transportation costs and time, and superior performance at greater heights. Rocprop is an active support. It is a pre-stressing device which means it applies an upward force on the roof, pushing the layers of strata up and together.

Rocprops have been successfully introduced in longwall shield extraction work, bleeder support, teardown entry support, main haulage and conveyor support, support after roof falls, high seams and other special projects.

PROPSETTERS - ROOF CONTROL IN UNDERGROUND MINES

Finding an effective support system that can handle the high deformation of tailgate environments is an issue for all longwall miners. Strata ProductsTM introduced the Propsetter Support System to meet this need while at the same time began supplying the most cost-effective support prop available.

The Propsetter is a specifically designed timber prop with yielding capabilities, support capacities that match four-point cribs and superior handling and transportation abilities, compared to conventional timber cribs. They are used predominantly in tailgate support but are also very effective in longwall shield recovery and long-term bleeder support. Our standard 8.5in diameter unit is our most popular Propsetter System and has a load capacity of 50t. Our larger 10in diameter Propsetter has a load capacity of 65t.

CLUSTER PROP - HIGH CAPACITY SUPPORT SYSTEM

Strata Products recently began testing and developing the innovative new Cluster Prop to meet the market demand for a higher capacity support system. This product is a set of three Propsetters bundled together creating a combined yield strength of more than three times that of the individual Propsetter, with the benefit of added stability.

SAND PROP - RE-USABLE ROOF SUPPORT SYSTEM

Sand Prop is Strata Products' re-usable roof support system. Designed and manufactured by Strata Products, this simple yet effective secondary roof support can be installed in minutes by a single person.

Sand Prop's design is one steel tube inside another, with the inner tube pre-filled with sand. Sand Prop has a load capacity of 60t and allows for 2in of deformation before buckling.

Sand Props are fast and easy to install and require no specialized tools. For this reason, they are currently very popular in mines in Southern West Virginia. Exposure time on longwall moves and longwall shield recovery is cut in half due to the speed of installation and the immediate support offered by the Sand Prop. The narrow diameter and steel construction of the prop reduces ventilation resistance and makes them very useful in beltline entries and intake and return escape routes.

In addition to being used for longwall moves, shield recoveries, beltline entries and escape routes, Sand Prop is very effective at providing additional support and protection to permanent seals. The Sand Props are installed behind and in front of the seals to provide extra support and protect them from roof falls.
