SNC Lavalin - Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Management Services

SNC-Lavalin is one of the world's leading engineering, procurement, construction and related technical services organisations. SNC-Lavalin Australia (SLA) is a fully operational division within the SNC-Lavalin Group. SLA's vision is to become the centre of excellence for alumina, nickel and complex hydrometallurgy plants for SNC-Lavalin worldwide.

SLA is a successful competitor for high-profile contracts, including the EPC contract for Burrup Fertilizers in Western Australia and the EPCM contract for the multi-billion dollar Goro nickel project in New Caledonia.

ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION EXPERTISE

SLA can bring an innovative and flexible approach to projects. Our team of knowledgeable and experienced engineers can undertake projects of any size and duration, from conceptual and feasibility studies to full EPCM and EPC projects, across a diverse range of minerals.

NICKEL LATERITE PLANTS

We are the only engineering company to have been involved in the design and operation of four new nickel laterite plants and to have executed feasibility studies for four more in recent years.

PLANT AND INFRASTRUCTURE CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE

Projects undertaken include complex hydrometallurgy plants and infrastructure, including nickel laterite, gold, copper, cobalt and uranium. Other project experience includes:

  • ACID plants
  • Alumina plants and infrastructure
  • Ammonia plants
  • Borefields projects
  • Concentrators
  • Refineries
  • Smelters

SLA has gained significant experience in the management, infrastructure and logistical requirements of these types of projects.

The company has received international recognition for excellence in project management by combining the highest standards in health, safety and environment with outstanding achievements in project execution in terms of cost, schedule and quality. SLA is consistently ranked in the top 10 international design firms in the annual survey by Engineering News Record.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (PM+)

SLA has an in-house project management system called PM+. It is a modern and interactive Windows®-based system, composed of 11 comprehensive modules that begin with project definition where the work breakdown structure is established and end with construction, thus covering all key aspects of a project. It has the flexibility to adapt to small and large projects and ensures that projects are delivered to clients on time and within budget.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE

SLA has completed many successful projects, including the following:

  • Burrup ammonia plant – SLA provided the overall EPC services for this project to develop a world-scale, export-oriented 2,200tpd ammonia plant
  • Goro nickel plant – SLA, in a joint venture with Foster Wheeler was awarded the contract to conduct an in-depth technical and economic review of this project
  • Alcan Gove refinery expansion – SLA and its joint-venture partner were awarded a mandate to complete a definitive feasibility study preliminary to the engineering, procurement and construction management for the proposed expansion of the refinery
  • Bulong nickel project – SLA and its two joint-venture partners were retained to complete a feasibility study for this nickel laterite project and were subsequently awarded an EPCM contract
  • ERA laterite plant – SLA was awarded the EPCM contract for the completion of this project; it will be designed for a feed rate of 60t per hour and operate at 79% laterite plant availability all year round
  • Rio Tuba – SLA provided procurement and technical-management services for the design and construction of the facility
