McConnell Dowell's Batam facility is our key fabrication yard in South East Asia. Established in 1998, the facility covers 15ha and is strategically located 20km from Singapore and in a trade-free zone to cater for export fabrication.
The site has open-water frontage and a draft of 5m for shipping and barge load-out. Services include the fabrication and supply of steel structures, modules, pipe work, marine piles, and pre-cast concrete elements. On-site facilities include automatic and semi-automatic welding; CNC plate cutting; auto-blast machines; enclosed painting sheds and on-site medical facilities.
The Batam facility has an overall annual fabrication capacity of 15,000t of structural steel; 50,000 diameter inches of piping; and 15,000m³ of precast concrete. Batam has provided support services on many of our signature projects, including the Hamersley Iron Project (Western Australia), which comprised 1,500t of temporary works and 1,800t of structural steelwork and frames.
