CONTRACT MINING AND INFRASTRUCTUREGroup Five provides broad ranging solutions to contract mining and mine infrastructure. From electrical engineering, materials handling and silo construction, to road construction and damming. Each is specifically tailored to the requirements of the customer. Below are a few examples of our operations. PORTAL AND DECLINE SHAFT EXCAVATIONSGroup Five completed the portal and decline shafts at the Hackney mine in Limpopo Province for Anglo Platinum, prior to the start of mining operations. Excavations involved blasting into the rockface in preparation for the construction of the shafts, which are finished with concrete collars. The rockface was reinforced and stabilised with gunite. CIVIL WORKS, MECHANICAL AND STRUCTURAL INSTALLATIONSCivil works at the concentrator plant at the Modikwa platinum mine included the flotation cells, storage silos, water treatment and ancillary buildings, as well as roads, drainage, platforms, pipelines, culverts and decline shafts. The civil works were followed closely by the mechanical and structural installations by Group Five’s engineering operations. This included the fabrication and erection of overland conveyors, which involved a number of heavy lifts. Consulting engineers were Bateman. UG2 CONCENTRATOR INSTALLATIONGroup Five completed Anglo Platinum’s UG2 concentrator in Rustenburg in a 50/50 joint venture. The contract involved sliding three silos, the construction of an ore crushing and screening building, mill building, flotation plant, a tailings thickener, pumpstations, conveyor take up and plinths, pipe rack foundations and internal and external sewage reticulation. MINING ACCOMODATION AND FACILITIESGroup Five can provide all your mining accommodation and facilities. We can take responsibility for land procurement, design, finance and construction of housing units and facilities. We seek and apply value-engineering opportunities and pass the benefits onto you, the customer. Group Five's capabilities do not stop when construction is complete.
