Ronson Gears Introduces New Gear Manufacturing Machines

02 January 2009

To ensure we continually offer our clients the absolute best in quality gear manufacturing, we have purchased three new pieces of cutting edge machinery. All three will be commissioned in the coming months.

The Doosan turning centre VT 900 has already arrived and is meeting our expectations. The decision to purchase the Doosan turning centre VT 900 was driven by the desire to increase our turning capacity from 450mm diameter to 900mm and improve our turning times. We have done just that and doubled our capacity.

With a hob grinding capacity for hobs of 254mm (10in) in diameter and 305mm (12in) in length, the Koepfer KFS250S CNC hob sharpener will be on the floor in February 2009. Before arriving at our site our actual machine has been on display at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago on Koepfer America’s stand.

Bringing further accuracy and speed to our processes, accurately sharpened hobs mean accurate output and extended hob life. The machine will also sharpen bevel gear cutting tools, shaper cutters and rack cutters. Ronson Gears will continue to offer hob sharpening as a service into 2009 and beyond.

Last, but definitely not least, our Fellows CNC vertical gear-shaping machine also arrives in early 2009. This fully retrofitted shaping machine will be capable of gear cutting internal gears up to 200mm face width and 650mm inside diameter. We are incredibly proud of this purchase from Machine Tool Builders in the US. An extremely professional company, Machine Tool Builders enjoys an excellent reputation in the gear manufacturing industry.

The machine possesses a hydrostroke, hydromechanical stroking system, a CNC system designed for gear processing, and adaptive controls which continuously optimise key machine functions for peak cutting efficiency. This new system will provide dramatic increases in productivity and tool life with significant part quality advances when compared with conventional crank-driven gear shapers. On suitable work, projected productivity may increase up to 100% and tool life by as much as 250%. Part quality levels to DIN 6 (AGMA 11) can also be expected.
