GKN Land Systems is the world market leader when it comes to the development and production of technical driveline systems for agricultural, construction and mining machinery, as well as for military applications.

The motto of the presentation at this year’s Bauma trade fair in Munich is "From Power Source to Power Applied" – indicating that the company can offer a complete product portfolio of integrated driveline systems for off-highway applications, from the power generator to the power consumer.

Here’s a brief overview of the top new products:

Première at Bauma

New eDrive concepts for the off-highway sector

GKN Land Systems will be presenting eDrive concepts for electric and hybrid drivelines for the first time on the occasion of Bauma. The new AF Series axial-flux electric motor offered by the company in this context is a 3-phase permanent-magnet motor with high torque and high power density. This new motor makes it possible, for example, to electrify secondary drives for special-purpose and construction machines in the off-highway sector. The motor is of compact design and low weight, making it particularly suitable for use in electric and hybrid vehicles.

Depending on motor model, a maximum speed of up to 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of up to 800Nm can be achieved.

In addition to power-related advantages, such as the improved process efficiency of machines and implements, as well as very good open- and closed-loop controllability, eDrive systems also score from the ecological point of view: outstanding use can be made of alternative and more sustainable energy sources, and the CO2 emissions of mobile machines are significantly reduced.

eDrive systems are recommended for use not only in the construction machinery industry and the municipal sector, but also in farming, and hold the promise of greater efficiency and improved functionality.

New product in the clutch systems segment

Stromag Vector coupling – reliable transmission of torques up to 9,600 Nm

GKN Land Systems is now presenting a flexible coupling of the latest generation – the Vector coupling. The focus here is on the use of elastomeric elements that are arranged on a small diameter and capable of transmitting torques up to 9,600 Nm. This is roughly equivalent to a drive system with a 1,550 kW diesel engine running at 1,500 rpm.

Owing to the special arrangement of the elements, the coupling is play-free and universally suitable for both rigidly and flexibly mounted engines, thus offering a versatile range of possible applications.

New product in the transmission systems segment

ICVD increases system efficiency

In the field of driveline systems, GKN Land Systems will for the first time be presenting the continuously variable, hydrostatic ICVD drive with additional, automatic axle disconnection. This new transmission technology makes it possible to increase the system efficiency of wheeled loaders and telehandlers, for example, while at the same time reducing tyre wear and energy consumption.

New product in the universal drives segment

Mechanics 15.5C – up to 30 percent higher torque capacity

GKN Rockford, the world’s leading manufacturer of heavy-duty driveline components, will be taking Bauma 2013 as an opportunity to present the new, high-power Mechanics® 15.5C driveshaft series for heavy-duty driveline applications in the off-highway sector, e.g. in mining.

The 15.5C is an advanced development of the existing 15C Series and features numerous design innovations that increase the torque capacity by 30% and the service life by roughly 35%. For the user, that means longer operating times and shorter downtimes.

Expanded product range

On the occasion of Bauma GKN Stromag will also be presenting itself for the first time since its integration in the GKN Land Systems Division. GKN Stromag has long been a globally acknowledged engineering partner and supplier of multiple-disc clutches and brakes, industrial disc brakes, highly flexible couplings, and cam-type limit switches for gearboxes. These products are used for such applications as wind turbines, ship’s propulsion systems, crane and material handling systems, as well as the agricultural and construction machinery industry, thus perfectly rounding off the product range of the GKN Land Systems Division.
