E.D. Oates Professional Cleaning Products
E. D. Oates is an Australian company supplying professional-quality cleaning products for the home and industry for over 80 years.
In July 2005, E.D. Oates was acquired by GUD Holdings Limited. As the owner of a number of other iconic Australian companies, including Sunbeam, Davey, Ryco Filters, Wesfil and Lock Focus, GUD Holdings offers Oates a strong commitment to brand development and future growth in professional cleaning and household products across Australia and New Zealand.
The Oates range is currently comprised of over 1,200 products with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement, product development and quick, easy and effective cleaning. Oates’ customers range from the largest supermarkets, DIY chains and mass merchants to specialised cleaning outlets and export customers across the Pacific and Asia.
Oates continues to grow through complementary acquisitions and by launching new products, many of which are designed in Australia. In June 2010, Oates acquired the chemical product range and branding of Research Products, Citrus Resources and Dry Fusion. The range includes hard floor, carpet and upholstery cleaners, disinfectants and bleaches, glass and automotive cleaners, laundry and fabric care, dishwashing detergents, hand washes, deodorises and other speciality cleaners.
The formulations are developed to be more effective and more environmentally responsible, and to eliminate hazardous components. The health and safety of staff, the end user and the impact of products on the environment will not be compromised.
True national distribution network
With an extensive national warehousing network and experienced sales force, Oates prides itself on delivering the highest level of quality products with national service.
"You know sending a product out of our warehouse with the Oates name on it means something. It’s very important to us that we are passing on and protecting the reputation of our partners by ensuring that our product works well and gives value for money," explains David Birch, CEO of Oates.
Commerical and industrial cleaning products
Oates is dedicated to offering market-leading, high-quality commercial and industrial cleaning products.
To remain ahead of the competition, Oates constantly seeks out new designs and materials to ensure that its cleaning products meet our high quality standards and get the job done quickly and effectively.
To protect your reputation Oates retains testing facilities in Australia and overseas at the point of manufacture. Our guarantee is your guarantee.
Engineering and innovation in cleaning
With a dedicated team of engineers Oates continues to design and innovate, creating award-winning products that clean best.
Oates’ engineering department designs products that are efficient and effective with minimal strain on the cleaner’s body.
"We engineer products because it is about ensuring that the Oates name means something both in retail and in the commercial world and to ensure that Oates products always fit the purpose," explains David Birch.
Over the last few years, Oates has been pioneering the occupational health and safety (OH&S) aspect of its products, which reduce wear and tear on the user while also cleaning efficiently.
"We are determining if we can create products that are ergonomic and easy to handle; cleaning is a lot of repetitive movement, so we want to find the mechanics in that. We feel we absolutely have an obligation to lead product development in Australia for OH&S," David Birch explains.
Oates also strives to improve its products through sourcing using different natural and synthetic materials. Oates keeps on top of the worldwide trends and advancements through an advanced network of contacts as well as on-site visits to examine new processes and materials for implementation.
Oates likes to be a pioneer in many respects, but does so always from the standpoint of ethical, commercial and fiscal responsibility.
"We have to make sure that we are pioneering in the right way both from an ethical and commercial standpoint. We are also a company with a share price and thus are obliged to manage that and see if we can grow the business responsibly and not recklessly," explains David Birch.
Environmentally-friendly cleaning products
Oates is working towards a sustainable environment by supporting the need to use recycled materials where possible. Oates strives to create products that are ecologically responsible and clean effectively. Products include the Duratuff handles, which use bamboo from renewable resources, the Greentex mop, which is made out of recycled fibres such as pure green PET plastic bottle fibres and post-consumer rayon / polyester, and our chemical range: Citrus Resources and Organo Kleen.
