Leading global crane and hoist manufacturer Konecranes has won another tender to supply its high efficiency, high safety CXT Wire Rope Hoists to Hong Kong-based CITIC Pacific's Sino Iron project in Western Australia's Pilbara region.
Daisy Wong, Procurement Engineer, of NETC Western Australia (a subsidiary of China Metallurgical Group Corporation, the EPC contractor of Sino Iron Project), whose job it has been to procure much of the equipment that will be used at the Cape Preston ore concentration site, had dealt with the Konecranes organisation on a previous job, and says that when it came tome to select a tender, the choice was clear.
The Solution
"We like to deal with Konecranes in this project for three main reasons," says Ms Wong. "Firstly, Konecranes is a world - famous manufacturer of cranes and hoists, so we felt comfortable knowing that the quality of our new equipment would be very high. This also meant we knew the quality of support we would receive after signing the contract and installing the units would be very good also.
"Secondly, for this project, we were after a highly professional company to supply us with our equipment. All throughout the tender process and ever since, Konecranes have acted very quickly and professionally, which has been very helpful.
"Thirdly, from a technical point of view Konecranes gave us solutions to our needs. They gave us a lot of options when we were negotiating with them for the purchase of these hoists, which has saved us a lot of money and has shortened our construction period substantially."
The CXT Wire Rope Hoists will be relied upon for the installation and on-site maintenance of many different kinds of equipment, including pumps, cyclones and filters. The innovative design concept of the hoists makes these high performance hoists smaller in size and lighter in weight. Reduced hook approaches create more usable workspace. For new facilities, the hoists improve flexibility in factory layout and material flow planning, and enable the use of a smaller building that is less expensive to build.
The Result
The lastest order for another 12 of the CXTs brings to 88 the number of compact and ergonomic hoists
selected for the project, which, upon completion in early 2012, will be the largest magnetite iron ore mining and processing project in Australia, with an estimated project value in excess of $5bn and an approval to export around 22m tonnes of concentrated magnetite ore per annum.
