BMA Blackwater has continued with its program of trialing different methods of maintaining the quality of the CAT D11R/D11N final drives. By the use of the strong one eye final drive magnetic plugs the results are excellent.

These had been inially used in the four trial machines for six months with no recordable PQ and FE below ten. This has also assisted to reduce the AL and SI in the system which has in turn lowered the iso by two to three codes in each compartment.

Blackwater has a plug inspection program, with every machine inspected weekly. With the site rolling these plugs out to every machine, any increase on the magnetic plug now shows if an issue is beginning. To date all compartments have a "A" plug result and on the 24 machines there have not been any cases of final drive failure, even in compartments that were put under water.

We highly recommend these magnetic plugs as a preventative maintenance tool.
