Janod was formed in 1968 and is a world-renowned expert in the field of rock / soil slope stabilisation.
Janod's rock remediation technicians (RRT) have performed various stabilisation techniques to steady the slopes of other mines for companies such as Rio Tinto, Golden Sunlight Mine (now owned by Barrik), and several large quarry operations for Vulcan Materials, Luck Stone Quarries, Lafarge and Pennsy Supply.
Stabilisation techniques applied at those sites include ring net drape systems, wire mesh drape systems, cable net drape systems, flexible rockfall barriers, scaling, slushing, blasting, hybrid rockfall barriers, rock bolts, rock anchors, shotcrete and rock scaling.
Slope scaling is performed from ropes and consists of an RRT rappelling down the slope to the area of unstable mass and removing it by using a scaling bar to pry loose the unstable rock. If the structures are more massive we can use 'air bags' to dislodge rock from a safe distance.
In some instances, high-pressure water can be used to wash away smaller debris if the face is highly weathered. The RRT are trained to the highest industry standards and either IRATA or SPRAT certified for rope work. A well-planned and managed approach to this difficult work assures safety of all the workers.
Rock anchors can be installed as either active or passive systems depending on the rock slope conditions. The decision to install a tensioned anchor or not can only be decided after careful analysis of the structure has been performed.
This evaluation can be carried out by a geologist, mine engineer, geotechnical engineer or rock slope stabilisation expert, depending on the complexity of the stability issues.
Drape systems are an economical method of controlling the energies of falling rock and retaining them to the designated area at the base of the rock wall. Choosing which material to use for which slope depends on the size, shape and density of the unstable blocks that will be dislodged over time.
Janod only uses quality products like those produced by IGOR Paramassi out of Trento, Italy which produces double-twist wire mesh, wire mesh baskets, ring nets and cable nets.
Rock fall barriers and hybrid barriers are an effective tool to control rock falls from others that can be thousands of feet away.
The advantage of a flexible barrier or hybrid is that it can be disassembled and reassembled in another location when mining operations have moved on. There are several techniques that can be used to meet the needs of our clients to allow mining to run safely and efficiently.
