Gaskets and seals

AG manufactures rubber seals in a variety of solid or sponge rubber types, with or without pressure-sensitive adhesive. In addition, AG provides other gaskets or seals for vibration absorption, heat transfer, RFI protection, electrical insulation or spacing applications, which can be made to specific requirements.

Metal-jacketed gaskets

AG provides metal-jacketed gaskets, which protect the soft compressible temperature-resistant core. Typical fillers include millboard, graphite and ceramic papers. AG’s range of metals includes soft iron, copper and stainless steel, as well as high temperature and heat-resistant metals.

Reinforced graphite for high-temperature and pressure applications

Graphite has many applications in heat and pressure environments. However, its main drawback is often lack of strength when the design calls for narrow flanges or large dimensions. To overcome this problem and enhance performance, AG reinforces graphite with a stainless-steel sheet, either as a foil or a tanged insert. This includes stainless steel or aluminium outer surfaces and polyester sheet centre-reinforcement.

High-temperature fibreglass, silica or aramid woven gaskets

At AG, fibreglass, silica or aramid woven fabrics can be folded or cut and glued to create flexible and economical gaskets. Applications include inspection door seals and ducting. To further enhance the handling and wear, AG also offers the application of resistance coating such as silicone rubber.

Polyimide film

Kapton® by Dupont is a state-of-the-art, high-performance film that provides innovative solutions for a wide variety of design and engineering applications. It continuously insulates from cryogenic temperatures to 240°C and has a flame retardant rating of UL-94 V-0.

Kapton has good chemical and radiation resistance and many other outstanding properties. It is available in log and slit rolls or fabricated components to drawing or sample.

Silica cloth thermal insulation

AG fabricates blankets, curtains, expansion joints, removable pipes and cables. It carries an extensive range of Refrasil rope, batts, sleeving and tapes.

Refrasil textiles are filament, amorphous silica products with the thermal performance of a refractory material. Refrasil is produced through the chemical leaching of specially formulated glass fibres which yield a more than 96% pure silica cloth.

As Refrasil textiles resist oxidation, Refrasil products suit the most corrosive environments and present no known health hazard. The most popular form of Refrasil is woven cloth, available in a number of different weights and thicknesses.

High-temperature insulating sheet

Millboard is a very good high-temperature insulator with low thermal conductivity values. AG carries Fireshield 1000 millboard, which is available in sheets with the following dimensions: 1m × 1m (length × width), 2mm - 25mm (thickness).

Millboard is ideally suited for oven linings, flue gas seals, heat shield panels and launder linings, and syphon-crucible gaskets in aluminium smelters. It can also be used as a filler for metal clad gaskets.

Ceramic fibre blankets

AG’s ceramic fibre blanket is a highly efficient insulator with a low heat storage capacity and complete resistance to damage from thermal shock. It is unaffected by most chemicals, and if wettened by water, steam or oil the thermal and physical properties remain unaffected.

Fibreglass tape

AG provides fibreglass tape in a variety of widths, thicknesses, qualities and finishes for specific applications. Fibreglass finishes include heat treatment to improve cutting qualities; weave set treatment to improve cutting and sewing; water rubber-coated proof finish; reset with pre-applied adhesive; flame proofed; siliconed; and colour dyed (red, orange and black).

AG carries tapes with the following widths: 12mm, 20mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, 75mm, 100mm, 125mm, 150mm, 200mm and 300mm.

Welding blankets

AG supplies welding blankets in cloth form or with eyelets and hooks. They can be supplied from a wide range of materials from fibreglass to our black Refrasil, which can reduce the amount of glare while working.
