FLSmidth Minerals has received $41m (DKK220m) of orders from Indian company Utkal Alumina International Limited for a bauxite grinding and a mud washing plant. Design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning are included in the contracts.

This order for bauxite mills confirms FLSmidth's leadership in the alumina market in India, having secured the last three successive contracts from different customers. The bauxite grinding package includes three 300t per hour rod mills, bauxite storage silos, handling equipment and pumps.

The mud washing package includes nine settler/washer tanks in washing circuit along with flocculant dosing systems, holding tanks, pumps/valves and piping. The decantation circuit is an integral part of all alumina plants, with FLSmidth being the market leader worldwide in designing these systems. Utkal Alumina International Limited has been offered deep cone technology to reduce the footprint of the plant as well as to ensure improved soda recovery and reduced mud volume disposals.

In May 2008 FLSmidth also received contracts from Utkal Alumina International Limited for a gas suspension calciner and a coal handling system for the same plant.

"These multiple contracts from a single customer re-affirm FLSmidth's leading competence in the supply of major product packages and being a 'one source - one partner' for the alumina refinery industry," said group CEO Jørgen Huno Rasmussen.
