Delkor Asia Pacific, a sister company of Delkor Sub-Saharan Africa (DSSA), was commissioned by GR Engineering Services to supply and deliver flotation cells as part of a larger upgrade of Xstrata’s Cosmos Nickel mine in Western Australia.

"Delkor was awarded the contract to design and fabricate three rougher flotation cells," says Pieter Jordaan, Delkor Sub-Saharan Africa’s manager.

"The client award required us to deliver the flotation cells in 11 weeks. The execution of this contract was by Delkor SSA and the target was achieved. This is commendable as the scope included design, fabrication for the complete cells, and shipping to Australia. The client was pleased with our effort as the installation time at the mine was considerably reduced," says Jordaan.

BQR flotation cell technology has garnered the attention of large projects across the globe. Recently awarded contracts include Hindustan Zinc in India, African Copper Plc in Botswana and the Syama Gold Mine in southeast Mali.

"The Delkor BQR Flotation Cells offer easy process optimization through purpose-designed levels of solids suspension, air rate adjustment, easy froth-cone positioning and a stable pulp-froth interface. This range of round tank flotation cells is used in roughing, scavenging, cleaning and re-cleaning, unit and pilot cell applications to process copper, zinc, platinum group metals, phosphates, graphite slag and effluents. They range in size from 0.5m3 to 150m3 and feature a simple design which reduces the cost of spares, enhanced power efficiency and a low maintenance cost," says Jordaan.

He adds that Delkor’s ability to respond to the unique requirements of every company operating in the natural resources industry is backed by its technological and engineering expertise.
