Ionix - Miners' Cap Lamp Batteries

Southern Aurora miners' cap lamp batteries are designed and manufactured in Western Australia for the harshest underground conditions. They are not only much smaller and ergonomically designed to be more comfortable for the wearer, but they are 70% lighter than traditional lead acid cap lamp batteries.

HALOGEN OR LED HEAD LAMPS

Cap lamps can be fitted with long life halogen globes or leds with inbuilt optics to maintain a focused spot light beam. The LED lights have a service life of around 10,000 hours so there is no need to open head lamps and replace globes. Every head lamp has a built in backup globe.

MAINTENANCE FREE AND SPILL-PROOF BATTERIES

Unlike traditional lead acid batteries the Southern Aurora contains no acid and requires no topping up with acid. It contains no heavy metals like cadmium or lead and is completely sealed, emitting no corrosive or explosive liquid or gas. It can also be waterproofed which is particularly important in mines affected by underground salt water.

The Southern Aurora miners cap lamp battery contains no dangerous chemicals or heavy metals and there are no restrictions on sending it by surface or air transport. The light weight and freedom from dangerous goods shipping regulations make it significantly cheaper and easier to transport than traditional lead acid cap lamp batteries.

INBUILT CHARGING

The battery contains its own smart circuitry which enables it to charge directly off traditional lead acid charging racks via the standard halogen or LED head lamp. There is no need to purchase expensive new charging equipment when new cap lamp batteries are ordered, these batteries can be used side by side with traditional lead acid batteries on the same racks. This circuitry is programmable so it can be adjusted if rack specifications change. For new sites with no existing racks the charging system can be done at a fraction of the cost of traditional racks.

INBUILT INTELLIGENCE

The Southern Aurora can log how many charge and discharge cycles it has performed in the field. It tells the user when it is charged, when it is discharged, if the fuse is blown, even how many hours of burn time it is capable of and when it needs to be replaced. It can also be fitted with personnel tracking.

LONG LIFE

The service life is up to three times longer than traditional lead acid cap lamp batteries under all conditions.

GREATER RELIABILITY

The chemistry of the Southern Aurora is inherently more reliable than the chemistry of traditional cap lamp batteries. Unlike traditional batteries which sulphate when left discharged, the Southern Aurora can be left in a charged or a discharged condition for weeks or months without damage. Storage is not an issue. High temperatures do not cause rapid aging. Rough handling and shocks associated with normal mining use do not damage the inner workings of the battery.
