Orion Solar - Solar-Powered LED Mine Lights

Orion Solar has been supplying solar-powered LED lighting solutions for aviation, marine, mining, roadway, parks and transit applications throughout Australia and neighbouring countries for the past five years. The growth in the Australian mining sector has resulted in huge growth for Orion Solar.

Easy-to-install solar-powered LED lights

Orion’s LED lights are used wherever it is difficult or costly to provide an electrical supply. With no trenching, cabling or permits required, Orion’s lights are easy to install, without the need of an electrician, and offer lower installation costs, lower maintenance costs and no running costs. The lights turn on automatically at dusk and go off at dawn unless switched off by a stored program or activated by motion sensors.

Solar-powered LED lights for mines

Orion supplies complete LED lighting solutions for the mining sector. Our lights have been used for the following applications:

  • Marker lights on haul roads
  • Obstruction lights on towers and cranes
  • Conveyor lights
  • Hazard warning lights
  • Pedestrian crossing lights
  • Traffic lights
  • Solar-powered bollards
  • Windsock lighting
  • Street and pathway lighting
  • Car park lights
  • Equipment illumination
  • Runway lights
  • Taxiway lights
  • Helipad lights
  • Security-fence lighting

"We started with the sale of safety warning lights to mark the edges of roads, but those initial orders have led to further sales of other products," says Orion’s sales manager Richard Holliday.

"Illumination is needed at many places around a mining site and very few places have the ready availability of hard wired power, which means there is a great opportunity for solar-powered LED lights."

LED mine light manufacture

Orion represents a number of manufacturers, including Carmanah Technologies, Dialight, Multipole, Advanced Navigation Technologies and others, plus we integrate various technologies and add value through locally manufactured hardware. Overall we are a lighting solutions provider, identifying what is required and proposing the best available solution.

Green, solar-powered LED lights

In addition to the cost savings achieved, the installation of Orion’s solar-powered LED lights has helped our customers reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Orion helps customers to go green and take a step forward in the climate-change debate.

LED mining helmet lamp

Orion also offers a mining helmet lamp that combines l-ion battery and LED lamp in one small package. Once charged the lamp will operate for 12hr at full brightness and 70hr when in the energy-saving mode. We also have a range of LED bulbs and tubes designed as replacements for traditional incandescent and fluorescent lamps.

LED safety lamps and replacement lamps

All LED-based lamps offer a longer life (up to 100,000hr), lower energy use, a greater tolerance to rough handling and minimal heat generation. Over the life of the product they are a lower-cost alternative to all other lighting technology.

Orion Solar operates from an office and warehouse on Queensland’s Gold Coast and we have customers in every state and territory of Australia, plus New Zealand, South East Asia and the Pacific Islands.
