Novaris - Lightning And Surge Protection Products

Each year millions of dollars of damaged equipment and lost time can be directly attributed to lightning strikes and other electrical disturbances. Around the earth lightning strikes 100 times per second, or 8,640,000 times a day, on average.

Novaris has designed and manufactured lightning and electrical disturbance electrical protection systems since 1993. We specialise in the protection of power and data signalling. Our products are used in mining applications throughout Australia and internationally, and we provide global solutions in lightning and surge protection technology.

When vital equipment goes down in the mining industry, it can cost tens of thousands of dollars an hour of production profits. There are a number of reasons for the failure of sensitive equipment. Some of the reasons for this failure are from direct and indirect lightning strikes. Most of the damage is not caused by direct strikes, but by the effects of indirect strikes. These strikes produce voltage surges, most often on the mains electricity supply, but also sometimes in telephone lines and other long cables.

NOVARIS POWER AND DATA SIGNALLING PROTECTION

Our products protect structures, powerlines and signal/data lines from the imminent danger of the effects of a lightning strike, or surge, at or near your base of operations. Our lightning and surge protection products meet international and relevant Australian and New Zealand standards on lightning and surge protection.

The Novaris systematic approach will ensure complete protection from direct strike and transient voltage throughout your entire system and infrastructure. It follows the IEC 62305-4 standards for lightning and surge protection.

SITE PROTECTION BOUNDARIES EVALUATION

Create a protection boundary around isolated or separate segments of the site. All services crossing the boundary require protection whether they are power, data or RF signals.Novaris employs engineers specifically for professional lightning and surge protection consulting. Our team of experienced engineers can aid you in the evaluation of your needs.

Through appropriate evaluation of the structure and the needs defined through the IEC standards. The protection of buildings and structures against a direct lightning strike is covered extensively in many of the world's lightning protection standards. Novaris does not recommend non-standard ‘attraction’ or protection solutions.

BONDED EARTHING SYSTEMS

A single bonded earthing system within each boundary is essential for an effective lightning and surge protection solution. It is often thought that earthing problems can be solved simply by improving or reducing earth resistance.

Novaris recommend the protection of incoming power to the base station at the point of entry with a series connected surge filter. The most damaging interference is that of a direct or indirect lightning strike to the power line or a nearby strike, which causes earth potentials to rise or induce interference onto power lines.

SURGE PROTECTORS AND DIVERTERS

The Novaris systematic approach to protecting a structure and its electrical services from these damaging effects includes three types of power protection products: surge filters, series surge protectors and surge diverters.

The amount of damage suffered by equipment connected to signal and data lines is rapidly increasing with the high installation density of computers, telecommunication and process control systems. Novaris offers a complete range of protection devices to provide effective protection for each of the above mentioned applications.

Novaris has specialist expertise in protecting a wide range of integrated systems and equipment including:

  • Computer networks
  • Communication systems
  • Process control
  • Defence
  • Airport navigation
  • Intelligent building systems
  • Telephone systems
  • Broadcasting
  • Railway signalling
  • Oil and gas
  • After defence add infrastructure
  • After broadcasting add installations
  • After Oil and Gas, add infrastructure
