NLT Receives Approval for its Led Cap Lamp in Australia

Brisbane, Australia- Monday, January 8, 2007- NLT Australia, a subsidiary of NL Technologies (NLT) in Canada and known throughout the mining industry for product innovation, recently received certification of Intrinsic Safety (IS) from Test Safe in Australia for its LED Cap Lamp.
NLT"s LED Cap Lamp, the Northern Light® GII LED, integrates the latest in lighting technology with the consistent quality of the GII cap lamp. Switching to LED offers several benefits including a brighter, whiter light, reduced lamp maintenance and a lower cost-of-ownership.
Fred Kopeschny, NLT's Engineering Manager conservatively estimates that the LED will last over 10,000 hours. This represents huge cost savings: "Currently, the typical incandescent bulb may need replacing up to four times in one year. When you factor in the cost of the bulb and its maintenance cost, a mine that has 500+ cap lamps would save $76,000.00 over four years by switching to the GII LED."
NLT first launched the Northern Light® GII LED in 2005. The market has been extremely receptive to this new technology. Up until now the coal industry has not been able to benefit from the GII LED.
According to Tim Haight, Managing Director of NLT's Centre of Excellence for Intrinsic Safety in Brisbane Australia there is a huge push for IS-certified products in the coal industry "My team has been working very diligently with local approval bodies to secure approval. This type of technology offers huge benefits to the industry, not only in terms of cost-savings but also for safety.
NLT continues to work with approval bodies in other markets. IS-approval is expected in Europe and in the United States early 2007. The Northern Light® GII LED is currently available through NLT, NLT Australia and its authorized resellers around the world.
