BREAKING DOWN THE RESISTANCE – FLOW AND LEVEL MEASUREMENT

Endress+Hauser has a complete range of instrumentation especially suited for the rugged applications found in the mining industry. For example, many flow measurement applications are found in a mine. Some of them are quite simple, i.e. the measurement of water or acid. However, the material of the lining and the electrode material must be resistant to acids or alkalis or the lifetime of a standard magnetic flowmeter will be reduced. For slurry applications special meters with soft rubber linings are needed. Because of this, the Endress+Hauser Promag 35 S magnetic flowmeter has been specially developed for such applications. The brush-like electrode has an enormously increased operating lifetime.

Another example of Endress+Hauser measurement and automation equipment is the Levelflex M level measurement with cable-guided self-cleaning microwave pulses. This measuring device is used for fine-grained materials that are typically less then 10mm. Products in a mine always produce a good reflection but, unlike the ultrasonic principle, the reflection with this measuring system depends on the change of dielectric constant. The cable probe looks similar to a capacitive system and reaches into the silos or bins. With its tensioning force of up to 3t, it can withstand the heavy tensile forces encountered in bins and containers.

Ultrasonic level switches and guided micro-impulse instrumentation also monitor the sand and gravel processes, beginning with the dredging of sand and gravel and ending with the discharging of conveyer belts.
