Endress+Hauser has now developed a robust and easy-to-operate system for detecting the most minute leaks. The appeal of this solution lies in its reliable and troublefree operation.
Capacitance sensor cables are used for monitoring purposes in many storage tanks. They are used to detect any leaking liquids that contain hydrocarbons. An easy and cost-effective solution at first glance. However, the greatest advantage of this solution is also the main disadvantage. The sensor cables react so sensitively to hydrocarbons that even small quantities of contamination, e.g. from maintenance work, will cause the alarm to be triggered. This results in a large number of false alarms which cost considerable time and money.
Endress+Hauser takes another approach in the detection of the most minute leaks in storage tanks. The independent, family-owned company relies on continuous density monitoring and thus cleverly avoids the disadvantages of other systems. A Liquiphant Density unit installed at the outlet pipe of the collecting channel system detects changes in density immediately.
Firstly, this guarantees fast reaction times and secondly, an alarm is only triggered if liquid has genuinely leaked from one of the tank shells. Detection of the most minute leaks using the density parameter, such as that offered by Endress+Hauser, significantly increases the safety and reliability of tank shell monitoring.
An additional vibration point level switch used for dry run protection guarantees reliable operation of the oil level alarm system in summer. In winter, a trace heating system prevents the housing and shut-off valve from freezing. The sight glass enables quick verification. The entire measuring system can be easily cleaned thanks to the integrated rinse connections.
