SANTOS Selects Securatrak IVMS Solution

12 April 2007

Securatrak Pty Ltd today announced that it's Geotab GO GPS Fleet Management Solution has been selected by SANTOS, for implementation throughout all of it's vehicles within Australia's Cooper Basin Mining Region.

Securatrak's Managing Director, Mark Holmes, said that they were "extremely pleased with the results of the evaluation period that clearly demonstrated the driver safety benefits that the solution provides".

The introduction of the GPS In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS), is a core component of Santos' "Safe Drive" project, designed to proactively create and maintain greater levels of "Driver Safety Awareness", in turn reducing, with the objective of eliminating, vehicle and driver accidents throughout the region.

Occupation Health & Safety has become a key element to the growth of this type of technology, not only in Australia but also overseas.

Mark went on to say that" Whereas several years ago, these types of solutions were often viewed as being "Big Brother", the OH&S benefits are finally being recognised by companies and industries of all types.

When asked "What should fleet managers be looking for in a GPS Fleet Management Solution?" Mark's response was "There is no doubt that more solution providers are coming into the market with an array of Fleet Management products. Many of these new products vary in features and design; however we always suggest that people consider three major points."

"Is the in-vehicle hardware easy to install and decommission? After all, everyone replaces vehicles from time to time, some more often than others."

"Does the reporting Software have a range of meaningful reports that can be customized by each user, and importantly, is the reporting software easy to use? The last thing that a GPS Fleet Management solution should do is add to a fleet manager's workload. Although these solutions do collate a lot of data, you don't want to see reams of information that aren't relevant to your business, only the information that is important to you."

"Lastly, but most importantly, what level of product and software support is in place that will assist you not only with the initial implementation, but on an ongoing basis?" Like any other technology based product, make sure that the service provider you are dealing with can demonstrate the ability to support its solution.

Are these systems affordable? Although it sounds like a clique, these GPS Fleet Management solutions are designed to reduce your fleets running costs and improve a company's productivity.

There is also a general misconception in the market place that all of these solutions have to be "Real Time" tracking solutions. Sure, for some organizations' that need to see where there vehicle is every minute of the day, real time solutions are the way to go, however for those fleets that still need to see what and where the driver and vehicle has been traveling, but not necessarily right then and there, there are other, more cost effective solutions that do not incur ongoing "network charges".

The uniqueness of the Geotab GO solution is that there are two methods of downloading your data to your GPS Fleet Management reporting software. The live solution, as we have already mentioned, relies on a radio network, for example a GPRS or Satellite network to transfer the vehicles data back to base.

An alternative is the fully automated RF system that requires no driver intervention. It simply senses when a vehicle enters the depot or office area, and automatically downloads the data from the vehicle's data logger into the Geotab reporting software.

Securatrak is the Australasian distributor for the Geotab GO solution, providing GPS Fleet Management hardware and software solutions to a large cross sections of industries throughout Australia and overseas.
