As part of the Becker Group's expansion strategy in Australia, Becker Mining Australia - a subsidiary of Becker Mining Systems AG, Germany - has acquired the Vale Group of companies. The Vale Group comprises seven companies and provides engineering, mechanical, electrical and labour solutions to the mining industry.
Dr. Franz Becker, chief executive officer of Becker Mining Systems, signed the agreement on July 1st with the managing director of the Vale Group, Gerard Cleary.
"As part of the Becker group, Vale now have access to leading edge technologies, strong financial backing and a true global support network," said Gerard, who has now become the business development manager for the Becker Vale company. Dr Becker confirmed that, "Vale brings to the Becker group a range of new and complementary products and services, along with a wealth of experience and capabilities in their various operations."
The group of Vale companies will be consolidated into two entities, Becker Vale Pty Ltd and Vale Industrial Pty Ltd. Phill O’Meley will be the new managing director of both companies. Previously the general manager, Phill reiterated the benefits of the acquisition for the existing staff and for the future of the Vale businesses during the announcement to all personnel: "It's an exciting time for Becker and Vale in Australia, and our respective customers will soon see the tangible benefits."
Tony Napier, the managing director of Becker Mining Australia, said: "The combination of the Vale companies with our existing Becker NCS subsidiary will significantly enhance Becker's presence and capabilities in Australasia. It has been extremely pleasing to meet many of the Vale team and be so warmly welcomed. I look forward to working with Phill, Gerard and the team from Vale."
Becker Vale will continue with engineering, manufacturing and overhaul of both mechanical and electrical product lines. Becker's products will be introduced to the Australian market and supported by Becker Vale. A strong labour hire unit, previously Vale Contracting, will also be integrated to focus on the underground coal markets. This will result in Becker Vale being a one-stop-shop for many electrical and mechanical solutions, from concept, engineering, fabrication, installation and after sales support.
Vale Industrial consolidates the labour hire and industrial aspects of the Vale group of companies and will focus on labour / maintenance, recruitment and professional placements. The head office of Becker Vale will continue to be located at Moss Vale.
