ActiveMine uses up-to-date, proven technology that is widely deployed in a variety of applications. The system offers several advantages:

ROBUST AND RELIABLE

ActiveMine™ is the only commercially-available mine communications and tracking system that is less susceptible to mechanical damage of all sorts, including rock fall. ActiveMine's 100% wireless Wi-Fi network backbone uses 5.8GHz wireless nodes to communicate without hardwire connection, in contrast with hard-wired leaky feeder systems. In the event that nodes are damaged in a mine emergency, the network can remain operational to assist in the location of trapped miners.

HIGH-SPEED DATA COMMUNICATIONS

ActiveMine provides high-speed data communications to enhance productivity. Unlike leaky feeder, ActiveMine's network fully supports high-speed data services, including streaming video, to monitor mine activities from the surface and improve operating efficiency.

OPEN-STANDARD TECHNOLOGY

ActiveMine is fully compatible with most other mine communications and tracking technologies, including previously installed systems. This makes it possible for mines to add wireless features while leveraging hardwire networks already in place.

It is also designed to meet federal MINER Act requirements for wireless systems as established in MSHA policies (see MSHA Program Policy Letter No. P06-V-10).

LOWER TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP

ActiveMine provides all of these enhanced capabilities at a lower Total Cost of Ownership than leaky feeder and RFID gates (the combination of leaky feeder communication systems with locating via RFID gates). This is possible because labor costs for installation and maintenance of ActiveMine are lower than for all other available systems, and because the technology is built to cost-effective “intrinsically safe” standards.
